- -- INTRODUCTION --
-
-
- This ADVANCED USERLIST allows a supervisor or authorized user to
- get various information about any user currently logged in to a
- Netware 3.x network. The user list program supplied with Netware
- indicates the users logged in, but not much other useful
- information. This program shows much the same information, but
- includes many other features.
-
-
- The program is most useful for people at a help desk or others
- that need to do problem determination. This person may have to
- do a standard user list, send a message, look up specific
- information for a user or group, check user and system login
- scripts, check file and directory privileges, and other tasks.
- This may require running several utility programs supplied with
- Netware. This program combines many of the needed features
- into one utility.
-
- A summary of these features are:
-
- 1. Sort the user list by node address, user id (login name),
- full name, connection id or login date and time.
- 2. Send a message to a user.
- 3. Look at a users login script.
- 4. Look at the system login script.
- 5. Look at a users security equivalences.
- 6. Look at the groups a user belongs to.
- 7. Look at a users trustee assignments. This will show
- the users specific file and directory assignments as
- well as those for the groups the user belongs to.
- 8. Refresh the user list without re-running the program.
- 9. Pick a file server to view, from those you are currently
- logged into.
- 10. View print job configurations.
- 11. Automatically refresh the user list.
- 12. View miscellaneous user information.
- 13. Recognize Netware security to provide bindery and other
- user information to authorized users only. Non-authorized
- users will get error messages indicating the lack of
- security.
-
-
- Both DOS and WINDOWS versions of the program are included. Both
- supply the same information and features with the only difference
- being the user interface.

- -- INSTALLATION --
-
-
-
- -- DOS Version --
-
- Copy ULIST.EXE into some directory that is located in your PATH
- statement. If you put the file into its own directory, make
- sure you add that directory to your PATH statement in your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file or map a search drive to that directory in the
- system or user login script.
-
-
-
- -- WINDOWS Version --
-
- Copy WULIST.EXE into any directory you wish. Start WINDOWS and
- click once inside the group you want ADVANCED USERLIST put into.
- Select FILE, NEW, and then PROGRAM ITEM from the program manager
- menu. Set 'Description:' to ADVANCED USERLIST. Set 'Command
- Line:' to the drive and directory where WULIST.EXE was copied to
- followed by WULIST.EXE such as C:\UTIL\WULIST.EXE.

- -- RUNNING THE DOS VERSION --
-
-
- Type ULIST at the command prompt to start the program. You can
- follow ULIST by the name of a file server that you are logged
- into. If you do not specify a file server name, ULIST will
- display users for the file server of the current drive. If the
- current drive is a local drive (like C:), then users will be
- displayed for the default server.
-
- Once a file server is selected and the current users logged in are
- found, a screen is displayed showing the users node address, user
- id (login name), users full name, connection Id and the date and
- time the user logged in. You can use the page up/down, home/end
- and cursor up/down keys to move the selection bar to a specific
- user.
-
- Once the selection bar is positioned on a user, pressing ENTER
- will display a menu of options. All options then selected will
- reference the selected user.
-
- This main menu and all sub-menus work the same way. Move the
- selection bar to the requested option or item. Pressing ENTER
- will perform the request, and pressing the ESCAPE key will
- return to the previous menu. Pressing ALT-F10 at any time will
- end the program.

- name, connection Id and the date and time the user logged in.
-
- The selection bar is positioned on the first user by default.
- Clicking on any of the available buttons will perform that
- function. Clicking one of the radio buttons will change the
- sort sequence of the list. Clicking the down-arrow button to
- the right of the file server name will allow you to change
- file servers.

- -- NOTES ON RUNNING WINDOWS WITH NETWARE --
-
-
- Many articles have been written on the subject of running
- Windows 3.1 with Netware 3.x. We have found that regardless of
- these informative and helpful articles, trial and error often
- are required to get proper integration.
-
- The main problem is that there are many versions of the
- netware drivers, and many of these are provided by the
- manufacturer of the network interface card you may be using.
- You may also be running the ODI version of the drivers,
- EMS or XMS shell versions, Windows in standard or enhanced
- mode, and other drivers within windows itself.
-
- If you have problems running ADVANCED USERLIST, we would
- suggest the following:
-
- 1. Get the complete set of current windows and netware
- drivers. These can be obtained from Compuserve and
- many other bulletin boards throughout the country.
- Avoid getting just IPXODI.COM or NETX.COM for
- example. Get the entire set.
-
- 2. Get the current network interface card drivers from
- the manufacturer. This may be the ODI and non-ODI
- versions. Also check with the manufacturer for any
- known incompatibilities between their drivers and the
- ones from Novell that they work with.
-
- 3. Install the new drivers and make sure they work
- before running windows. Make note of the version of
- the shell (NETX.COM, EMSNETX.EXE, XMSNETX.EXE).
-
- 4. Run the windows setup program and select the network
- driver based on the version of the shell in use.
-
- 5. Test the program in both standard and enhanced mode.
-
- 6. If problems still exist, it may be because the EMS
- version of the shell is being used (EMSNETX.EXE).
- The NETWORKS.WRI file supplied with windows states
- that the EMS version of the shell is not supported
- in enhanced mode. Try using NETX.COM instead.
